Inspired by McGizmo's addition of a SureFire A19 battery extension on the back of the Pelican M6 (shown HERE), I realized it could be run in direct drive using the PM6's most excellent reflector, of which I had multiple examples already machined down to fit perfectly on the McModule casings (since I was assigned to build the regulated BB750 McModules seen in THIS thread). So while waiting for the Arctic Alumina to set up on the McModules, I
built one up using a V2T:
Note the negative tab of the Luxeon clamped directly down on the surface of the McModule casing. Hey, only one solder joint! The view down the front end is the same as in all McModules:
This is the mod all cinched up w/A19 extender and SF tactical tailswitch
(the stock PM6's tailcap will fit as well, but I just liked the matching
look of the SF knurling better):
And finally, an unretouched beamshot photo putting it up against a SureFire
E2e w/Nascar's P61 LA mod (5W DD McModule is on the left, if the beam
colors didn't already tip you off):
It is one bright sucker. And the stippled reflector makes for a smooth, well distributed beam with a larger hotspot than even the SureFire P61 HOLA. How bright? I attempted to take a reading with the light meter set on 1x, but the indicator raced past the 1999 lux limit and overloaded immediately, so it must be assumed that this light is making well over 2,000 lux. But being that I was in the middle of the McModule build with (paid) buyers patiently waiting, and of course also being a man of inestimable integrity, I quite playing, stuck with appropriate priorities, and went back into the workshop... But think of it -- with the Pelican M6, the options are wide and varied
indeed. 5W BB750 McModule, 1W DB400 McModule, now this 5W DD McModule,
and any number of other combinations (colored Luxeons, 1Ws w/BB750s, the
upcoming 3W, etc.) will be limited only by the imagination... |
