Big Mag reflector for throw, but what about the guys who need a wider, softer beam?

Used a "Poor Man's 9P" body tube from WMSR06 (Matt The Machinist) which accepts 3 x CR123's, stock Legend LX head and tailcap, and most importantly, the stock LX textured aluminum reflector (cut down w/enlarged hole) and tried a 5W white Lambertian from a small batch I just got today. Here it is next to its sparring partner, a SureFire G2 w/P60 LA, G2Z bezel and Pyrex lens (Thanks, Nascar!):

Here are their beams from four feet away:

The LX's hotspot is slightly larger and about the same brightness.

But here are the same two beams on my sloped ceiling from 25 feet below:

The LX's beam is now softer and more evenly diffused throughout, while the SF, not known for really tight pencil beams anyway, still has a pronounced hotspot. The LX's beam was also much whiter.

Comparing them outside at night, the LX beam spread out wider still and provided an evenly distributed and very usable flood of light. It measured just under 2,000 lux on the light meter.

Just so people don't think I'm only about "throw" (although it is still the preferred beam in my line of work).
